Dental Bleaching Options in Our Boston Office
Dr. Brito offers both in-office and take-home whitening.
Take-Home Whitening Trays
Take-home whitening is cheaper than the in-office whitening, but still effective. A take-home whitening tray includes taking impressions. The patient then returns to receive clear retainers and bleach. The patient then wears the retainers with bleach inside them at night for one hour at a time. The patient is welcome to buy more bleach as often as they want to keep their teeth white.
In-Office Professional Whitening
In office whitening takes around 1 hour to complete. Patient sits in the chair and 4 cycles of bleach are applied to the teeth. Before applying the bleach, your teeth are isolated from your cheeks so bleach does not get on them. The strongest bleach that can be used is placed on your teeth with careful supervision. Impressions are taken in order to make take-home trays. The patient is also given bleach to take home so that they can keep their smile white. Patients are told to not drink coffee or anything dark for 24 hours after bleaching.
Patients report making their teeth whiter by 2 to 3 shades after in office bleaching. Staining or intrinsic discoloring can not be removed with bleaching. Patients should have an exam and be declared cavity-free at least 6 months prior to in-office bleaching. If a patient plans on having fillings or crowns done, bleaching should be done before, so restorations can match the color of their teeth after the bleaching.
